Affogato al Caffè is the ultimate Italian two-ingredient dessert — simplicity meets indulgence. "Affogato" means "drowned," referencing the way a shot of hot espresso envelops a scoop of vanilla gelato. This heavenly combination is perfect after a meal or as a quick gourmet treat.

Affogato al Caffè

 2 scoops high-quality vanilla gelato or ice cream
 2 shots of freshly brewed espresso (about 60 ml total)
Optional garnishes
 Shaved dark chocolate
 Crushed biscotti
 A splash of amaretto or coffee liqueur

  • Chill Your Cups (Optional):
    Place your serving glasses in the freezer for 10 minutes so the gelato doesn’t melt too quickly.

  • Scoop the Gelato:
    Add one generous scoop of vanilla gelato into each chilled glass.

  • Brew the Espresso:
    Prepare two fresh shots of espresso using an espresso machine or stovetop Moka pot. The coffee should be hot and strong.
